BARTON DAMER

Barton Damer is the founder of ABC(Already Been Chewed), a design and motion graphics studio who has worked with companies like Nike, Marvel, Under Armour, DC Comics, NBA, NFL, Vans and Tiffany & Co. From being a scrappy skater to working with the biggest brands in the world, there’s no question why Barton was chosen by Work In Skateboarding to interview.

Since ABC is first and foremost, a creative studio, I knew the layout had to have one foot in a contemporary, urban vibe and the other foot stuck knee deep in skateboarding.

The photos chosen had to give the reader a good sense of a design studio and modern space that they inhabit. I also wanted to show a stark constrast between the photos of their design studio and Barton’s skateboard photos. You never quite seem to let go of skateboarding, no matter how successful you become in the real world.

Sometimes, the designers are not sent enough of the necessary photos that will accompany these editorials but once I saw this one, I knew what to do with it. This was a portrait of a skater who finally made it.
